Reflecting on 2023: A Year of Growth and Learnings
Today as we say Goodbye to 2023 and welcome 2024, wanted to take a moment to peer through the reflections from last year and the learnings I wish to take along with me in 2024! Fueling the Mind, Soul and Body can unlock peak performance.
Food for the Mind: Continuous Learning 👩🏫
AI is voted to be the 2023 Marketing Word of the Year. Gen AI as it dominated the entire year, made one thing very clear — there has never been any substitute for skills. With the highs and lows that unfolded for Open AI later in the year — one thing was certain — Sam Altman and 770 strong Open AI employees built something that everyone in corporate America wanted to treasure and preserve. Building Gen AI skills and incorporating them in daily workflow is going to be the 2024 productivity hack. With access to Bard, Chat GPT, Microsoft Bing, MidJourney, etc there is no dearth of tools to experiment. As a marketer, I have tried using all three in my daily workflow. For some ideas, here is a blog where I build an ABM marketing campaign from scratch using Bard.
Since I like to constantly doodle and draw, I also dabbled a little bit with procreate, and it has been a greate way to relax and get creative. In this rapidly evolving world, staying curious and building new skills continues paying forward no matter the year.
Food for the Soul: The Power of Connections🤝
There is no substitute for networking. No matter the medium find ways to connect with people. Whether it’s team gatherings, family get-togethers, or meeting people from your industry. Meaningful relationships with friends, family, colleagues, and clients go a long way. I have seen work is smooth when you have strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders. Friends and family on the other hand not only provide a strong support system but are also great for mental well-being. Find your community and figure out your place in that community.
I support the IT services industry, marketing technology consulting services to the automotive industry. My biggest learning by networking with automotive experts in today’s market is how amazingly this industry collaborates in the face of immense disruption. Imagine four generations of employees working on the same plant floor with varied levels of years of experience in manufacturing and almost inversely proportional to the experience with computing technology and electric vehicles.
Networking also forced me to step out of my comfort zone and helped me in personal growth. Through networking, I also got the opportunity to speak at podcasts like Business Ninjas and Advertisers Watching Ads talking about the things that I love to chat about.
Food for the Body: Prioritize wellbeing 🧘♀️
Health is wealth. From the busyness of work and hustle of daily life — prioritize healthier choices. Understanding the importance of balance, setting boundaries — shift towards self-care. On our trip to Alaska, one big lesson that we brought back is that what we do every day glaring at screens of various sizes doesn’t matter in the larger scheme of things. We are passing every year chasing the rat race, following the next trend, and forgetting to cherish what we have today, at the moment. Daily physical activity, healthy nutrition, and rest — all are elements to enjoying life and in turn, making it more productive.
I carry the lessons learned close to my heart. It was a year of growth, of facing my fears, and of discovering the depths of my own strength. As I step into the unknown of 2024, I do so with a grateful heart, a spirit of adventure, and the knowledge that the most beautiful journeys often begin with a single step.
